James S. Spindler, 91, passed away August 22, 2016 at Akron City Hospital.
James was born in Becker, MN to Harry O. and Mary E. (Keeler) Spindler on March 24, 1925. He spent most of his early years living in Wisconsin (Grand Marsh and Madison) and later became a long time resident of Akron.
James fought bravely for his country in the United States Army during WWII. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. While in college, James met and fell in love with Rosemary Pine and they married on May 20, 1950. James worked for Goodyear and Goodyear Aerospace (later Loral) as a chemical engineer where he retired after 39 years of hard work.
James will be remembered as an intelligent and giving person. He was a dedicated member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder. He was a precinct worker at the polls during election time, he helped the elderly with their taxes every year, and he regularly volunteered at Good Neighbors to provide help to those in need.
James was a good athlete and loved to bowl, play tennis and golf. He also loved to spend time with his family.
Preceded in death by his parents and twin brother Dean; he is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary of 66 years; brother, Harry K. Spindler; sister, Eleanor O'Brien; son, Doug (Jolie) Spindler; daughters, Sue (Bruce) Howorth and Ellen Spindler; and Grandchildren, Kevin, Matthew, Elisabeth, Margot, and Troy.
Services will be held SATURDAY, August 27, at 11 a.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1250 W Exchange St, Akron, OH 44313, with Rev. Stephanie Crossland officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. A reception for family and friends will be held after the service followed by entombment at Rose Hill Burial Park.
