Jim passed away on June 20, 2008 at Hospice.
He was 84 living in Akron and Norton all his life. A 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, he served as an armorer on P-47's in WWII with the 512th Fighter Squadron. Jim was a WWII buff who wrote a book of memoirs and spoke about his experiences with Norton school children. He and his wife Mildred loved to bowl and were members of the "3 Kings and Queen" team. Jim retired after 36 years with Firestone - where he developed a bicycle safety program for kids - and 4 years with NASA Lewis Research.
He leaves behind Mildred, his beloved wife of 61 years; sons Brian Cheryl, Barry Mary and Bruce; and daughters, Brenda Stormer and Bonnie Smith Ken. Jim was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Olive Krieger; special friends, Charlie and Donna Long; and many other nephews, nieces, and friends. There are no words to describe how he will be missed by us all.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with the Rev. David Pumphrey officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park where Firestone VFW Post #3383 will conduct a military service. Friends may call at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. Monday.
