Jane McClelland passed away on November 15, 2016 at 102 years old.
Her beautiful and courageous life is a lasting legacy to her surviving family; Hannah Lynne Doran of Atlanta, Georgia, Charles (Celia) Kirk (Barbara Kirk-deceased) of Elkhart, Indiana and Donna Kay (John) Van Der Aue of West Bloomfield, Michigan. Jane also leaves behind nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Of her many worldly accomplishments, her greatest was being the most loving, supporting and loyal wife to Donald William McClelland, who passed away in 2013.
Of note, it was said of Jane by a peer and family relative, "Jane should be given a PhD in homemaking". And indeed, that was a true statement of fact. Jane created a beautiful home and atmosphere for her family to enjoy.
Jane was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. She attended the Akron Public School System and the University of Akron. She was active in many high school activities as well as being chosen May Queen in her Junior year.
While attending the University of Akron, Jane joined the Eta chapter of Delta Gamma sorority and was elected President in 1934.
Over the years, one of her most satisfying volunteer efforts involved serving at Sumner Home. Jane sat on the Board of Managers and eventually became its President.
Other community service included working with the board of United Cerebral Palsy and as its President.
Jane was active for many years at the First Methodist Church on Mill Street in Akron. It was her pleasure to serve as President of the Women's Society of Christian Service.
It would be worthwhile to note that Jane and Don were supporters of the University of Akron.
When mother was in high school, Don saw Jane walking down Buchtel Avenue with her hair blowing in the wind. Don announced to a friend, "I'm going to marry that girl". And he did. Four years later, Don married Jane and they spent the next 78 years together. It's hard to say Jane without saying Don. They were a match made in heaven.
In memoriam: Our family would like to publicly thank our mom and dad for the exemplary moral example that they lived out before us.
