On Friday, October 20, 2023, Janet M. DasVarma (nee Wassity) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. Janet was born on February 4, 1943 in Akron, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Edith Wassity; and her sister, Jacqueline Grosso. Janet is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Ranendra “Ron” DasVarma; their three children, Julie (Thomas) Pfeiffer of Coral Gables, FL; Jay DasVarma of Baltimore, MD; and Robby DasVarma of Covington, KY; and her two grandchildren, Grant and Amanda Pfeiffer, whom she adored. She is also survived by two sisters, Jean (Charles) Hoff of Fairlawn, and Judy Craver of Akron; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graduate of St. Vincent High School, Janet was working at Akron City Hospital in 1964 when she met Ron, and they were soon married the following year. After moving briefly to Canada, then Michigan, and Cleveland, they settled back in Akron in 1972. While raising their three children, Janet attended the University of Akron part-time until she completed her bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She later pursued a Master’s degree in childhood counseling. Janet also spent many hours volunteering in her community, most notably for the Summit County Medical Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels. She was a long-time member of St. Hilary Catholic Church in Fairlawn.
Janet and Ron loved to travel, both in the US and abroad, including memorable trips to India, Europe and South America. Janet and Ron purchased a vacation home in Florida in 1996 and eventually settled in Naples, while still maintaining a summer residence in Akron. Janet was an avid tennis player, and she later took up golf after first learning it from her father at a young age. Janet made many close friends throughout her life, both in Akron and Naples.
