Janet M. "Skeets" Nankervis

March 17, 1930 — May 3, 2022

Janet M. “Skeets” Nankervis, age 92, passed away May 3, 2022 in Glenview, IL, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, George; sister-in-law, Jane Sturdevant; and brother-in-law, Franklyn Sturdevant. Survived by two children, Patricia Van Lengen (Charles) and Craig Nankervis (Mary Ann); nieces, Ruth Smith and Nancy Sturdevant, and nephew, David Sturdevant; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Elizabeth Nankervis.
Janet was born on March 17, 1930 in Connecticut. She graduated from Meriden High School in 1948, and from Columbia University School of Nursing with a BSRN in 1953.
Janet loved her chosen profession. She worked as a pre- and post-op nurse at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY, where she rose to the position of Head Nurse in the surgical unit and served as an instructor in the school of nursing.
Following her retirement, Janet devoted her life to building a loving and nurturing home for her husband and children. She also found time to volunteer for many organizations, including Mobile Meals and the Summit County Medical Alliance, where she chaired a committee that designed an award-winning program addressing the problem of domestic violence.
Janet lived life to the fullest and loved to laugh and have fun. She enjoyed sewing, singing with the Friends in Harmony, playing the piano and ukulele, and, with her late husband George, listening to Dixieland jazz and taking summer trips to Maine. Janet was the consummate hostess, going the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome. She found joy in everything she did, saw the best in people, and always put the needs of others above her own. With George, Janet enjoyed a full, rich life in northeastern Ohio, making many dear friends along the way.
Following her husband’s death, Janet moved to the Chicago area to be closer to Patty and Chuck. She especially enjoyed trying new restaurants and exploring the city.
Private inurnment took place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, OH.
