Jared Thomas Zuercher of Akron, Ohio, formerly of Ashland, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2021, in Cleveland Metro Health Center after suffering a cardiac event. Jared was born on December 11, 1980, in Middleburg Heights, Ohio, the second child of Tom and Susan Zuercher.Jared grew up in North Canton and Ashland, and graduated from Ashland High School in 1999. He went on to attend Malone College, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in 2003 with a major in Communications. Jared earned a Masters of Arts Degree from Ashland Theological Seminary in 2008, and graduated from the University of Akron School of Law, Juris Doctorate, in 2011. He was Licensed to the Ministry in the Church of the Brethren in 1999 and served as the Pastor of the East Nimishillen Church of the Brethren for four years, 2001-2005.On September 4, 2005, Jared married the love of his life, Katie Dougherty, and they were blessed with two daughters, Eirelyn and Noella. The family lived in Ashland, Ohio while Jared attended Seminary, and then they moved to the Akron area while he attended Law School. After passing the Bar in 2011, Jared set up his law office, Zuercher-Smith Law in Akron. In 2018, Jared became Chief Operating Officer and Vice-President at EMC IT Solutions for the greater Cleveland area.
Jared will be remembered for being a loving husband and father, a man of strong faith, someone who enjoyed outdoor activities, and for his compassionate heart, eager to help those in need. Jared is survived by his wife, Katie, and his daughter, Noella. Also surviving are his parents, Susan and Tom Zuercher of Ashland, Mother-in-Law Lynne Dougherty of Akron, Father-in-law Jim Dougherty of Ft Wayne, Indiana, sister Sharla (Paul) Lechner of Ashland, brother-in-law Matthew (Crystal) Dougherty of Columbus, nieces and nephews: Anna Burns, Braden Burns, Kaleb Burns, Kaleia Lechner, Aelan Lechner, Alyssa Dougherty, and Riley Dougherty, and life-long friend and business partner, Damon Galt.
He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Heather and Roger Burns, and followed in death by his daughter, Eirelyn Zuercher.
A private family memorial service to celebrate the lives of both Jared and Eirelyn will be held on Saturday, March 13th at 2pm at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel with his father, Rev. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts in Jared’s honor be sent to the charitable organization of the donor’s choice.
