Jason Jones Goodman

June 24, 1914 — December 2, 2012

Jason Jones Goodman, 98, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 2, 2012.

Born in Clarksville, Texas on June 24, 1914 to Roy and Lucy Swain Goodman, he spent his early years in East Texas. He graduated from Dallas High School in 1930 where he was an avid student of Latin, Greek mythology, and history. During World War II he served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army stationed in Hawaii.

After returning from the war, he lived in Dallas and worked for B.F. Goodrich and then for thirty-two years at Firestone, initially as a clerk in the mailroom, advancing to a merchandizing executive. On October 19, 1946, he married his beloved wife of 65 years, Louise Cheatham Campbell. In 1950, Firestone prompted the family to move to Akron where they spent the next thirty years living in Cuyahoga Falls and Bath. After retiring from Firestone in 1980, they returned to Texas, settling in Austin to be near family and friends. During these 35 years he continued to work part-time as an accountant and finally took full retirement in 2004 at the age of ninety. He and his wife Louise returned to Akron in 2011 where they spent their last cherished days together at Chambrel of Montrose.

Together they shared a love of theatre, art, music, literature, foreign travel, and entertaining. Jason and Louise were early supporters of Weathervane Playhouse where he also portrayed roles in over a dozen plays, often sharing the stage opposite his wife. His commitment to community service continued after retirement by volunteering as a reader for books for the blind at the Texas School for the Blind.

Jason will be remembered for his ability to engage all of those around him with his warm and magnetic personality. He was a scholar and a gentleman in the best sense of the word.

He is survived by three sons, Peter, Ned and wife Barb, David and wife Mary, and daughter-in-law Esther; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Delilah, Meade, Lindsay, Sean; and his great-granddaughter, Lola. His beloved wife, Louise Goodman; eldest son, Mark Goodman; brother, Roy Goodman, Sr.; sister, Mary Bennett; and nephew, Roy Goodman, Jr. predeceased him.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Weathervane Playhouse in memory of Jason and Louise Goodman (1301 Weathervane Lane, Akron, Ohio 44313, 330- 836-2626).
