Jay H. Gibson, age 88, of Akron passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014.
Born February 17, 1926 in Cleveland, he was the son of Harry and Julia (Seivard) Gibson.
Mr. Gibson lived most of his life in Akron where he was active at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. He was a WWII veteran of the US Marine Corp. He graduated from Kent State University with a Master's degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology.
He and his wife Mary were pioneers in speech and hearing services in Northeast Ohio; they established the Montgomery Institute Speech and Hearing Clinic in Akron. He also established speech and hearing services at Akron Children's Hospital where he was director of the department until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife Mary (Nackes) to whom he had been married for almost 45 years; daughter Claudia (Gary Addison) Gibson; granddaughter Jennifer (Jim) Reusch, grandsons Parker and Dillon Gibson; numerous great grandchildren, nephews, and nieces; brother and sister-in-law Manuel and Karen Nackes.
He was preceded in death by his son J. Scott Gibson.
Private services will be held for the family only.
