Jean Marie Dougherty

February 4, 1923 — April 9, 2017

Jean Marie Dougherty, 94, passed away peacefully at Ohio Living Rockynol in Akron, Ohio. Jean was born in Brackenridge, PA., the daughter of the late William F. Dougherty and Emily (Stamm) Dougherty. In addition to her parents, she was preceeded in death by her sister, Barbara (Ralph) Ogg and two brothers, William (Jane) and John (Barbara) Dougherty. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Jean enlisted in the Navy in 1944, served in Sampson, New York and Great Lakes, Illinois, her rank Y2c, honorable discharge and authorized to wear the American Campaign and WWII Victory Ribbons.

Jean was the stabilizing force in the offices of two prominent Dermatologists in the Akron area. Upon retirement, Jean had more time for golf and served as the treasurer of her league; raised Standard Poodles and was an officer, instructor and obedience judge as a member of the Akron All Breed Training Club; enjoyed traveling with her friends and family, cruise to Alaska, a trip to Hawaii and the Rose Bowl. Jean was a sharp card player, the Sunday nights were a lot of laughs with Arnie, another Jean, Marg and Barb.

Jean was a member of The Chapel and volunteered for several years.

Family and friends wish to thank the Staff, Nurses and aides at Ohio Living Rockynol for their many years of loving care for Jean; also, Summa Hospice Care in these last days.

A memorial service will be held 5pm TUESDAY, April 18th at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Chaplain Tim Short officiating. Inurnment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars: Firestone Post 3383, 690 W. Waterloo Rd., Akron, OH 44314. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
