Jean D. Godard
Jean D. Godard, of Akron, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2009.
She was born on June 17, 1932, in Canton, the daughter of Roy and Gladys Degenhard. Jean graduated from Canton McKinley High School and Wittenberg College. She enjoyed her years of teaching in the Akron Public School System. Active in volunteer work throughout her life, Jean was involved with the Junior League of Akron and Keep Akron Beautiful. She made soup for the Hospice Care Center through Faith Lutheran Church where she was an active member. Jean was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening and golf, had a passion for music and was a longtime subscriber to the Akron Symphony Orchestra.
Her greatest joy was her family. Preceded in death by husband, Richard D. "Dick" Godard in 1994, she is survived by her mother, Gladys Degenhard; sons, Doug Cheryl and their children, Trent, Lindsay and Abby; Joel Pam and their children, Erik, Caroline, Grace and Karl; Curt Carol and their son, Cole; and sister, Pat Hawken.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. SATURDAY at Faith Lutheran Church, 2726 W. Market St., with Pastor Jean Hansen officiating. Private interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., on FRIDAY from 5 to 8 p.m.
