Jean E. Gombert Jean Elizabeth Gombert, 91, of Copley, Ohio, died at 1:25 p.m. on Monday, September 12, 2011, at Sumner on Ridgewood. Born February 16, 1920, in Kent, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Bernice Douglass. She married Gordon Louis Gombert on May 9, 1943, in Kent, Ohio, and he died on November 15, 2000. She graduated from Kent State Normal School in 1938, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in English and Mathematics from Kent State University in 1942. Mrs. Gombert worked as a draftsman for Babcock and Wilcox prior to the birth of her children. Following years as a homemaker and volunteer for her children's many endeavors, she returned to the workforce. She served as secretary for Faith Lutheran Church for over 30 years, prior to retiring. Mrs. Gombert was a devout Christian who was generous with her time, talents, and treasures. Surviving are three children, Gail Polles husband John, Jan Gombert wife Debra, and Eleanor Woodard husband Lynn. Mrs. Gombert is also survived by grandchildren, Alexa husband Justin Stuck, Sara husband Dimitry Buzadzhi, Daniel wife Vera Gombert, and Carl Gombert; and three great-grandchildren, Cameron Stuck, Connor Stuck, and Benjamin Gombert. Also surviving are three sisters, Eleanor Marvin, Esther Freed, and Jo Heisler. She was preceded in death by her sister, Judith Houser. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, September 17th, at Faith Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Carolyn Wagar-Hier.
