Jean May Palmer Hudson, 79, passed away October 17, 2010.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Marlin Wayne Hudson; her parents, Jean H. W. Wilde Palmer and John Palmer; sister, Margaret and brother-in-law Raymond Garforth.
Jean was a Staff Sergeant during the Korean War, DAV, and Women's Army Corps. She was a gifted vocalist with a powerful soprano voice and had her own radio station on base where she sang for the troops. Her singing talent led her to Guy Lombardo's Nite Club, El Morrocco Supper Club and the honor of soloing for President Eisenhower. She loved to travel and camp with her family and pushed her kids to try new things. Thanks Mom!
Jean was very active in the Akron Public Schools where she started the Early Detection and Retraining of Learning Disabilities in Children. She was also a past PTA President. Jean was extremely involved in the Democratic Party and served as Precinct Committee person for many years. Due to her resolve, Jean was coined as the ``Mayor of North Hill' by many that knew her. She loved her neighborhood and neighbors in North Hill where she lived most of her life, raised her family and enjoyed her grandsons: Ian, Michael, Brandon and Govan whom she loved with all her heart.
Mom was a strong-willed, Scottish woman that never backed down from a fight. She had a record of 4-0 battling cancer and was a 20-year breast cancer survivor. She was a proud, courageous lady and a wonderful mother and grandmother. Our sadness is overwhelming as is the joy we feel with having her in our lives.
Jean is survived by sister, Ruthe Larry Schlosser; brother-in-law, Richard Spike/Dick Hudson; son, John Wayne Hudson Carol; daughter, Jean Marie Hudson; dear niece, Lee Ann Dick Weisenmiller and her loving grandsons as well as many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
