Jean A Hungerford

Jean Hungerford, 88, passed away Aug. 12 at the Hospice Care Center.

Born in Akron to John and Hazel McIntosh, and older sister to HazelLou, Jean attended Portage Path Grade School, and was a graduate of Buchtel High School and received degrees from Denison University and Akron University. She taught second grade at Case Elementary for many years. Always involved, she was a member of PEO, the Women's Board of AGMC, Bath Church,United Church of Christ, and a former member of the Akron Woman's City Club.

She leaves her loving husband, Courtland; daughters, Rebecca (MI), Roberta (AZ); and grandchildren, John (Melissa) Winters (WA), Emily Winters (WY) and Ian McKelley (MN).

Jean and Court had over 65 happy years together. They had many wonderful trips both here and abroad. Favorite destinations were Disneyworld, the Rockies and the ocean. The family benefited from Jean's wonderfully planned holidays which took them to most of the United States and Canada.

An avid reader and crossword solver, Jean especially loved to play word games. She was a fierce competitor, much to the delight of her family. She also loved the friendship of her Bridge group and looked forward to each Wednesday.

Jean took on countless stitchery and craft projects and did them beautifully. Court was her willing aid for projects requiring parts of wood, metal or glue. Together they created numerous items which often benefited Bath Church and Akron General Medical Center.
Jean will be dearly missed, but she leaves a legacy of living life balanced with faith, perpetually learning, always planning for the future and being ready for the next adventure. She treasured her family and friends most of all.

A memorial service will be held 2pm SATURDAY September 21, 2013 at Bath Church, United Church of Christ. . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bath Church, United Church of Christ, 3980 W. Bath Rd., Akron, OH 44333. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
