Jean Sherry Kovac, 88, died Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012, at Teton Medical Center in Choteau, Montana.
Jean was born September 9, 1923. She spent her first 83 years in Akron, Ohio. She married her husband, James, at the Church of Our Saviour on May 13, 1944 and raised one daughter, Christine. James passed away in 2005 and Jean came to stay with her daughter and family in Montana in 2007. She has resided at the Teton Medical Center since August 2011.
Jean loved children, pets, family, friends, and neighbors. She was always there for someone in need. She especially enjoyed teaching children to sew, cook, and play the piano. Jean was a graduate of Our Lady of the Elms and attended Akron University. She worked as a court reporter and secretary when young. She was a Girl Scout Leader for Troop 109 in Akron for eight years. She volunteered at Akron General Hospital for four years, mostly teaching deaf children. She was a 12 year actively engaged PTA Member and Lifetime WITAN Member. Jean spent over 60 years as a devoted parishioner doing volunteer work, teaching Sunday School, serving on the Alter Guild, and handling coffee hour for Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Akron.
Jean had many interests and talents, including playing bridge, pitching baseball, swimming, hiking, crocheting, dancing, skating, horseback riding, gardening, reading and writing poetry, doing crosswords, and was a member of golf and bowling leagues in Akron. She enjoyed frequent vacations with her family, especially those at Ocean City, New Jersey.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Birdella and George Sherry Senior; husband, James Kovac; son, Brenton Kovac; brother, George Sherry Jr.; sister, Polly Reiss; and nephew, Clifford Reiss. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Christine and David Raschke; grandson, Michael Raschke, all of Sun River, Mont.; goddaughter, Lynn Woods of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; godson, Michael Reiss of Akron; sister-in-law, Jeanne Sherry of Akron; and nieces, Sherry Price of Akron and Leslie Holden of Midlothian, Va.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with The Rev. George M. Tarsis officiating. Inurnment at Rose Hill Burial Park.
