Jean Thomas Mercer was born July 24, 1929, and passed away November 13, 2016.
Jean was a graduate of Old Trail School and Briarcliff College in Briarcliff Manor, New York. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Portage Country Club, Akron Garden Club, Junior League of Akron, Akron General Medical Center Women's Board, the Stan Hywet Women's Committee, Diggers and Weeders Garden Club, and a past member of the University of Akron Women's Committee and the Akron Dental Auxiliary.
Preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James F. Mercer, in 2002; by her parents, Edwin J. and Mildred V. Thomas; and brother, Richard V. Thomas; she is survived by her son, Dr. James E. Mercer and Kathy of Columbia, South Carolina, and daughter, Maryann M. Street and Jeffrey of Concord, Massachusetts; and her grandchildren, Joel and Margaret Mercer, and Jeffrey and Thomas Street. She also leaves behind many other dear relatives and close friends.
A private graveside service will be held for the family at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1250 West Exchange St., Akron, Ohio 44313; Edwin J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall, 198 Hill St. Akron, Ohio 44325-0501; Dr. James F.
