Jeanne Elizabeth Samman Ilse died February 25, 2009 of pneumonia.

She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, September 4, 1918. She graduated from Cleveland Heights High School and Denison University. In 1941, she married Fritz Ilse and moved to Akron where she spent the remainder of a very full life.

Jeanne was a very active and involved member of our community. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Akron Woman's City Club, the TriDelta Alumnae and the Fortnightly Club. She was a Past President of both WITAN and the Florence Crittendon Home Board. She served on the Childrens' Home Board, volunteered at the Hower House, was a Brownie Scout Leader and was a docent at the Akron Art Museum for ten years.

Jeanne worked for many years as an agent for Marting Realty and was a ski instructor at Boston Mills. She and her family spent each summer at their cottage at Chautauqua, New York where she enjoyed the lake and was active in the Ladies' Golf League and the Chautauqua Literary Society.

Her parents, her husband, Fritz, and a granddaughter, Jeanne Huggins, preceded her in death. She is survived by two sisters, Margaret Winship of California and Georgia Aiken of Newfane, N.Y. She is also survived by two daughters, Connie Schreiner of Akron and Barbara Huggins and son-in-law, Jim Huggins of Cary, N.C., and two sons, Fred Iles of Akron and Tom Ilse of Bluefield, Va. Five grandchildren surviving are Matthew Huggins and Jeff Huggins and wife Deborah, of Albuquerque, N.M, Wendy Faircloth and husband Butch, of Parma Heights, Chuck Schreiner of Columbus and Mike Schreiner of Atlanta, Ga., and four great-grandchildren, Fritz, Bessie and Catherine Huggins, and Lilliana Faircloth.

Memorial services will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1250 W. Exchange St., on SATURDAY, February 28th at 1 p.m. Private burial at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park, Cuyahoga Falls. In lieu of flowers, tax deductable donations may be made to the Chautauqua Institution, P.O. Box 28, Chautauqua, NY 14722.
