Jennie Geraldine (Gerry) Abbott

Jennie Geraldine (Gerry) Abbott, 96, of Akron, went home to be with her Lord on August 8, 2021. She was born on October 29, 1924 in Jelloway, Ohio to Thomas Buford and Zelma Frasher. Orphaned at 12, Gerry relocated to Akron where she and her sister Lois joined the family of Dick and Helen Hall and their daughter Faye.

After graduating from South High School Gerry attended and graduated from Asbury College. She became a teacher, teaching in several school systems in Ohio as well as a year in Key West, FL. During her career she taught home economics and science at both the middle school and high school levels. Gerry retired from the Norton City Schools system. She was a faithful, longtime member of Park United Methodist Church. Gerry and Eugene celebrated 62 years of marriage prior to his death.

Gerry was preceded in death by husband, Clifford Eugene, son, David, brothers, Merle and Gene, sister, Faye Mangham and granddaughter, Kimberly.

Gerry is survived by son, Philip (Denise), daughter, Nancy (George) Blind, daughter-in-law, Laura; grandchildren, Aaron Abbott, Jenny (Rob) Edwards, Stephanie (Chris) Sprague and Jaclyn (John Bartolotta) Blind; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Lois Alles; nieces and nephews and many friends.

Services will be held 10:30 A.M. FRIDAY, August 13 at Park U.M.C., 2308 24th St., SW, Akron, OH 44314 with Pastor Dave Haydu officiating. Family and Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service. Private Burial at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to MCK Esther Ryan Shoe Fund, Box 561, Barberton, OH 44203 or The Salvation Army of Northeast Ohio, 2507 E 22nd, Cleveland, OH 44115.
