Jerry Schobert

December 26, 1930 — August 9, 2012

Jerry Schobert, our good friend, father and husband, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2012, after a short illness. We can only assume that Jerry is now off to his next gin rummy game with Bob, Ben, Hal and the rest (at sometime). Born December 26, 1930, he was raised in West Akron and Eustis, Florida. As a Buchtel High School and Kent State graduate, Jerry learned his family's successful cottage cheese business along with his brother and close friend, Bob Schobert. He later made his way through the Korean War, dutifully serving his tough deployment as a military hotel manager in Stuttgart, Germany.

Most importantly, Jerry was a lifelong Ohio State and Cleveland sports fan. His one regret is that he would not see Urban Meyer lead the Buckeyes to an eighth National Championship. He was also an avid fisherman and talented card player (although some may disagree). In addition to his volunteer work at Akron General Medical Center, Jerry worked like everyone else and finished his career as the superintendent of Hillside Memorial Park.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Earl Schobert, his mother, Genevieve Schobert, his sister, Enid Nelson, and his brother, Robert Schobert. He is leaving behind Donna, his wife of 57 years. Jerry was an outstanding father to Jeffrey (wife Margaret, daughters Jessica and Chelsea), Steven (wife Katherine, sons Ryan and Evan and daughter Morgan), and Jill (husband Dale Papajcik, sons Christopher and Chase and daughter Caitlin), as well as a wise granddad to his eight (also outstanding) grandchildren.

Jerry was an all-around good guy. He will truly be missed by his family and friends, including his beloved four legged Gabby.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, August 12, 2:30 p.m., at the Billow FAIRLWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until time of service. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
