Jill L. Reyes
Jill L. Reyes, 58, passed away peacefully August 15, 2008 after a long battle with Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
People are judged by the effect they have on those around them. Jill Louise Reyes, born October 11th of 1949 in Canton, Ohio to Bob and Clara Mae Elsass, had a profound impact on all those she came in contact with.
Jill, who is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, John and her children Sarah and Jack, can best be remembered for her faith, inner strength, musical soul, and the love she showed for those she cared about. She is also survived by her brother, James Susan Elsass; niece Emily Tom Acker; nephew, James Brandy Elsass, and many other loving relatives and friends.
A strong spirituality that was not only preached, but more importantly practiced, was seen in her devotion to the congregation of St. John/ St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. In this setting she showed her talent for creating music through her contributions to the church choir and hand bell choir. This love of music was also shown in her instruction of elementary aged students in music, most recently in the Akron City Schools. She passed on her musical talent and spirit to those she met and especially those she raised. She was also a longtime member of the Children's Concert Society, Saint Cecilia Chorus and Junior League.
Her strength of character could be seen in many facets of her life, but perhaps it is best distinguished in her more visual battle with cancer, which she dueled with for 11 years. However, while visual, this does not show the strength she showed in her love for her family and friends. She provided a rock of support for her family and friends despite an illness of her own. All people's lives shape the people they meet; it is only a question of whether this shaping is positive or negative. Jill Reyes, through her faith and song, left a powerfully positive effect on those proud and lucky enough to call her family or friend.
