Joan Yvette Burkhardt, age 59, of Oberlin, Ohio, went home to be with her Lord on February 10, 2021.
She was born on September 29, 1961, in Akron, Ohio. She has been described as, "a pocket of sunshine,” by those who were blessed to have her in their lives. She had a passion for word search puzzles, delectable desserts and her work at the Oberlin Opportunity Vocational Center in Lorain, Ohio. Joan loved her family dearly, so much so that she never missed an opportunity to tell them to “buckle up.”
She was preceded in death by her mother, Sigrid H. Burkhardt Thompson (William); father, William G. Burkhardt Jr.; sister, Susan R. Westfall; aunt; Mary Burkhardt and uncles; James Burkhardt and Dick Engum. Joan is survived by her sisters, Victoria (Dennis) Bartel, and Laurel (Paul) Luff; nephew, Zachary Bartel; two nieces, Alaina Bartel and Hannah Glomski; step mother, Pamela Burkhardt; uncle, Thomas Burkhardt Sr; aunts, Karen Engum, Tara Navarro (Ralph) and Linda Burkhardt; and cousins, Francheta Groghan, Heather Groghan, Elizabeth Engum (Rob), Jeanette Mancini (Dennis), Carolyn Burkhardt (Andrea), James Burkhardt (Nadine), Heather Burkhardt (Bill) and Thomas Burkhardt (Jamie). Joan also leaves behind an extended family whom she adored in the Echoing Hills Village Community (of Northern Ohio).
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a private service, with Pastor James A. Gau officiating, has been held with interment at Mount Peace Cemetery in Akron, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Echoing Hills Foundation of Northern Ohio.
