Joan Clara Gist Olson was born July 9, 1944, in Akron, Ohio and passed away on December 7, 2015, also in Akron.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Richard, and her parents, Paul and Edith Phillips (Filippi) Gist. She leaves her daughter, Kristen (Jeff) Lyons of Charlotte, NC and grandchildren, Scott and Claire. Joan is also survived by her sister, Paula (Jeffrey) Malak of Lansing, IL; nephews, Michael (Anne Marie) Malak and Christopher (Tina) Malak, as well as her great-nephews, Andrew and Jackson, and great-niece, Kyra. She had a special and loving relationship with each of her many cousins.
Joan was a school teacher in the Nordonia Hills school system. She enjoyed crafts, genealogy, and visiting historic places. She was friendly, generous, loving and charitable and we saw it clearly in her care for others.
She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. on SUNDAY, January 3, 2016, at the Billow Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with visitation from 8 to 9 a.m.
