Joan Loretta Ruby was born October 5, 1936 and passed away January 2, 2018, at age 81. She is survived by her husband, James, married 58 years. Joan was born in Akron and was a life-long resident of the Cuyahoga Falls and Akron areas. She graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School, Denison University, and earned a master's degree in education at Kent State University. She retired as a guidance counselor from the Akron Public Schools with 28 years' service. Joan was a member of First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls, Eastern Star, Delta Delta Delta Sorority, and a life member of Ohio PTA. She volunteered thousands of hours at the Stan Hywet museum store. She spent many enjoyable winters in the Florida Keys. Joan loved beaches and beachcombing, seashells and sand dollars. She enjoyed entertaining, and leaves behind countless dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Mildred Griffiths; and son, Scott. She leaves a son, Bret (Denise); brother-in-law, Joseph Ruby (Sherry); sisters-in-law, Phyllis Griffiths (Thomas Getzinger), Darlene Ruby, and Marie Sauers (Patrick); and three generations of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 13 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Road, with a Celebration of Life led by the Rev.
