Jo Anne Barnes
passed away November 27, 2022 at the Rockynol Memory Care facility.
Jo Anne was born October 23, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio to Chester and Dorothy Myers. She graduated from Buchtel High School and The Ohio State University, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She married her college sweetheart, Bill Barnes, on February 17, 1950 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. After moving throughout the Midwest early in their marriage, she and Bill settled in Akron where they raised their sons, Dave and Bruce.
Employed in administrative services, Jo worked at Polsky’s and retired from O’Neil’s. In her retirement, Jo was active with Westminster and kept busy at Stan Hywet’s gift shop where she volunteered until 2019. She enjoyed hosting friends from near and far for celebrations of all occasions.
Avid travelers, Jo and Bill were particularly fond of traveling in their motor home and took countless road trips throughout the country. No summer was complete without the annual trip to South Carolina with the entire family - Jo and Bill were even spunky enough to drive all four granddaughters the twelve hours to Myrtle Beach on several occasions.
Preceded in death by both Bill and Dave in 2010, Jo is survived by son Bruce and daughter-in- law Pookie, daughter-in-law Mary, her beloved granddaughters, Nichole (Justin), Brittany, Lauren, and Lynn (Taylor), and great-granddaughter, Winifred.
A special thank you to the staff in Memory Care at Rockynol for providing such compassionate care to Jo since 2020.
