Joanne Gellner

Joanne Gellner, 86, died May 24, 2016 after a short illness.

Joanne was born, August 31, 1929 to Harold and Edythe Dickinson. She was a graduate of Akron North High School Class of January 1949. She always looked forward to spending summers at the family's cottage at Pointe-Au-Baril on Georgian Bay Ontario. An avid sports fan, she enjoyed bowling, golf and following the Cleveland sports teams. Joanne was involved in PTA, scouting, Goodyear Boating and Yacht Club, and Akron Post-Polio Support Group. What Joanne loved more than anything was her family. She loved having her house filled with people and the table full of food. She was always there to fill in as "mom" for many of her nieces and nephews whose families were frequently overseas.

Preceded in death by her husband, James, of 65 years; parents; brother, John W. "Jack" Dickinson; sisters, Henrietta Barnett and Marjorie Thompson and twin sister, Jeanene May; brothers-in-law, John Gellner and Russell Barnett; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth "Betty" Dickinson and Carole Gellner; and nephew, Robert McLaughlin. She is survived by her sons, James F. (Beth), Terry and Ned (Gayle); grandchildren, Kevin (Kristi), Amy (Jeffrey) Gargas, Michael (Susan), David and Bryan; great-grandchildren, Maliah, Kason, Jonathan, Jacquelyn, Millie and Isaac; brother in law, Harold "Buster" May and many nieces and nephews, cousins and great friends across the U.S. and Canada.

Services will be held 11 a.m. WEDNESDAY at the Billow FALLS Chapel, 1907 23rd Street, with Rev. Stephanie Crossland officiating. Interment at Crown Hill Cemetery.
