Joanne Darkow Greive

Joanne Darkow Greive, age 93, of Akron, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 2024.

She was born September 25, 1930, daughter of the late Harold William and Lydia Brueggeman Darkow.  She was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Akron.  Joanne graduated from Buchtel High and Penn Hall Junior college.  She met her late husband Ted at Grace Lutheran and were married there in 1954.  Ted traveled extensively for his work at Goodrich and often brought his family on extended trips, including a three-year stint in Koblenz, Germany.

Joanne’s life revolved around faith and family, and her loyalty to both was an inspiration to family and friends.  She loved music and was a longtime choir and bell choir member and director.  She also enjoyed painting, gardening, and baking.  She was a longtime and active member of the Akron Women’s City Club.  Joanne and Ted were avid travelers and traveled around the USA and the world.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ted, daughter Joanne, brother Harold, and sister Evelyn.

She is survived by her brother Donald (Mary Kay) Darkow; sons Clifford (Debbie) and Tim (Karen) Greive; grandchildren Joanne (Gary) Baker, Amanda (Brad) Martin, Rebecca (Eric) Wakefield, Michael and Matthew Greive; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will take place on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Friends may call at 10:00 AM until the start of the service at Fairlawn Lutheran Church, 3415 W. Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44333.
