Joanne grew up in Cuyahoga Falls. She lived in Antwerp, Ohio for 36 years and currently resided in Uniontown for the past 2 years. The most important thing that kept her in the Antwerp area was the opportunity to tap dance with a group called The Alley Kats made up of women age 55 and up. Joanne danced with The Alley Kats for 30 years. She started dancing when she was a young girl and was offered an audition in Hollywood but was not able to attend. She then took dance lessons again at age 50 before moving to Antwerp. While living in Antwerp, Joanne attended Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Altar Guild, treasurer, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She took up painting and was active in the Hicksville Players Theater and was in the productions of Annie, Mame and the Cemetery Club. She also helped direct a play at the local elementary school. Before moving to Antwerp, Joanne and her mother had their own business, Vickie’s Poodle Parlor, grooming poodles for over 20 years.
She loved music and was always singing. Joanne started playing the piano at age 10 and enjoyed playing the player pianos that her father built and repaired. Her family remembers her singing to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She travelled many times in Ohio and to Michigan and Virginia to take care of the babies and visit family. She and Bob spent many years wintering in Orange Beach, Alabama.
A favorite time for the whole family was the vacations to Ocean Isle Beach every summer for over 30 years. Joanne had the most beautiful blue eyes and her smile lit up the whole room.
