John J Bahas, 82 went to be with the Lord on October 3, 2014.
John was a loving and cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was known as a man of great faith, a true leader and a cornerstone of the community. John dedicated much of his time in service to others, mentoring many young men and women in Christian education and business, opening his home for bible studies, and helping those less fortunate.
He was born in Ashland OH, graduated from the University of Cincinnati and served as a Captain in the army. Following his military service, John settled in Akron, Ohio with his wife Katherine in 1957. Later in that year, he took the management role for Waterloo Restaurants, which over the next 4 decades became a local landmark now run by his son John G. Bahas.
John served as president of the National Restaurant Association. An active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, he also attended St. George Antiochian Orthodox church, was an AHEPA member, and participated in many Orthodox study groups and outreach activities.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Katherine G. Bahas and his beloved brother, Gus. Autumn was his favorite time of year and this will be the best view he ever had of the glorious colors of the season. He is survived by four children, Gregory (Linda) Bahas, Karen (Mark) Horattas, Pamela (Laurence) Stefan, and John (Dena) Bahas II; his 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his sister, Erma Kovach and brother-in-law, George P. George. John was a blessing on this earth and will be dearly and deeply missed.
Services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. Jerry F. Hall officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. where the Trisagion service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Should friends desire, memorials may be made in John's name to the Katherine G.
