John Joseph Mackey, 62, of Akron, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Summa Health Systems, Akron City Hospital. He was born in Conneaut, OH on January 21, 1958 and was a graduate of Conneaut High School. John went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Youngstown State University. He was employed as an Estimator with H.M. Miller Construction Company.
John was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Cleveland Fish Club. He was raised in the Catholic Faith and was a former member of Annunciation Church. He was a man of few words, very strong but also very sensitive. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father Eugene Mackey.
John leaves his wife, Ling Cui Mackey; mother Rita Mackey; sons, Kevin (Emma) Mackey of Rocky River, OH and Ben (Lauren) Mackey of Tallmadge, OH; grandchildren, Neil and Kay Mackey; and brothers, Bill Mackey, David Mackey, Steve Mackey, Eugene (Tesa) Mackey and Andy (Beth) Mackey.
In honoring his wishes, John will be cremated and a celebration of life will be held later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, 912 Portage Lakes Dr. Akron, OH 44319.
