John Martindale

ohn Wendall Martindale, 94, went to sleep in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on June 14, 2012.

Born July 10, 1917 in Des Moines, Iowa, he graduated in 1939 with a B.S. in Chemistry from Iowa State University. John worked as an engineer in the tire division at B.F. Goodrich for 46 years and retired from a second career as a tax consultant at age 93. He enjoyed square dancing, woodworking, was an avid gardener and past President and member of the Akron Men's Garden Club and the Akron CEO's (Chemist Engineers and Others).

Preceded in death by son, David Schray; 2 sisters; 1 brother; survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Evie; sons, John D. (Lana) Martindale, Doug (Martha) Schray, Stephen (Sabra) Schray; daughters, Sue Ann (Ron) Larson, Joan "Jody" (Ron) Sharp; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and Thomas.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1250 W. Exchange St., Akron 44313 with Rev. Amy Starr Redwine officiating. Private burial at Northlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron. Memorials may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
