John Richard Mccormick

John Richard McCormick, age 74, of Cuyahoga Falls, passed away on Tuesday October 5, 2021. He was born on July 23, 1947 and grew up in Cuyahoga Falls graduating from CFHS with the class of 1965.

John joined the Navy in 1967 and proudly served 2 tours of duty on the USS Iwo Jima (LPH-2) during the Vietnam War. He was on board in 1970 when the ship rescued the astronauts after Apollo 13 splashed down in the South Pacific. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, John settled in California, only to return to Cuyahoga Falls in the mid-90s with his wife Patricia and granddaughter Melissa (nee Rojo) Hupcej. John was a truck driver for Area Storage where he continued to be a valued employee until his passing. He enjoyed his weekly Saturday morning visits to Molly Brown’s on State Rd and was not shy about admitting that he loved watching the Hallmark Channel.

John was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, his parents Halsey L. and Alice M. (nee Neselroad) McCormick, his sister Gwynn Lindsey, and brother Roger C. McCormick. John is survived by his children Jarrod (Veronica) McCormick, Stephanie (Edward Jr) Nicholls, and Kimberly Wiseman. Besides Melissa, his other grandchildren include Walter McCormick; Kaitlyn, Jay, Ashley, and Celeste Nicholls; Elizabeth, Bobby, and Emily Wiseman. His legacy includes four great-grandchildren Jacob and Emma Hupcej; Todd and Emelia Wiseman. He was a dear uncle of many and will be missed by all. A private burial is planned at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park.
