John Phillip Murphy

John P. Murphy, 87, of Akron OH, passed Away May 27, 2017 at Akron City Hospital.
He was the son of Madeline Spitler and Paul J. Murphy
John was a graduate of East High School, University of Akron, and Case Western University. He worked as a scientist and research chemist for Lubrizol, Int. for many years. John developed several patented products. He served as an officer in the United States Air Force.
John was an audiophile and developed patented products for sound and visual reproduction provided by compact discs and digital video discs. He traveled throughout Europe, Asia, India, Africa, and the Middle East. During His Travels John acquired historic and classical ceramic and art antiquities including a sculpture by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
He is survived by his sister, Eileen M. Stiles of Monroeville, PA; brother, James (Betty) Murphy of Kerrville, TX; nieces, Barbara (William) Urick of Monroeville, PA, Linda Stiles of Monroeville, PA, and Ellen M. (Peter) Townsend of Dallas, TX; nephew, Robert (Deborah) Murphy of San Anselmo, CA; great-nieces, Madelynn Urick, Gabrielle Urick, and Abigail Urick; and great-nephew Benjamin (Alexandria) Townsend.
John's family would like to thank those at the Village of St. Edward and Summa's Palliative Care Team for their compassionate care.
A memorial will be held at 11 am, SATURDAY, June 3, 2017 at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N Miller Road. Friends may call two hours prior to the service from 9 to 11 am.
