John R Peterson

CUYAHOGA FALLS -- John R. Peterson, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010.

Born in Sandusky, Ohio on July 1, 1918, he lived most of his life in Cuyahoga Falls and recently in Stow. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1941 to 1947 and was honorably discharged as a Chief Yeoman, attended Kenyon and Spencerian Colleges, was a member of the American Legion Charles Faust Post 281, a Mason in the Star Lodge 187 F&AM, and long time member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Akron. He was retired from Shelby Insurance with over 30 years of service.

Mr. Peterson was a friend to all who knew him and always found the goodness in others. He loved to tell stories of his life and travels in the NAVY, history, vacations, lighthouses, antiques, photography and his many dogs throughout the years.

Preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Edna; son, Andrew; brother, Robert; sisters-in-law, Shirley John Manuel, and Jean Bob Lee; he is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Sally of Florida; nephew, Bill Lee; niece, Elaine Lee; many long time friends and neighbors, and special friends the Schneidler family for over 60 years.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1361 West Market St. on FRIDAY at 11 a.m. Inurnment in the Memorial Garden at St. Paul's. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Humane Society of Greater Akron, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, or the Hospice of Summa.

The family wishes to send a Special thank you for the care and support given by the staff of Emeritus at Stow and the Hospice of Summa.
