John S. Pflueger, III, 57, of Akron, Ohio, passed away on February 24, 2013 after a courageous battle with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma.
He was born on February 17, 1956 and graduated from Firestone High School in 1974. John went on to attend Mount Union and The University of Akron. From there he worked and retired from Ken-Ed Cabinet Company and Gander Mountain, where he made many friends and had the time of his life. His many hobbies included hiking, cooking, hunting, playing the bass guitar, fishing, boating, camping and collecting Pflueger fishing tackle. He was a member of the NRA, Hill and Dale Club, Quaker Boy and National Wild Turkey Federation, where he served as president. He was a big baseball fan and followed the Cleveland Indians very closely. John loved to vacation with his family in the Les Cheneaux Islands, Michigan where many happy memories were made. He will be forever remembered for his sense of humor, kind heart and bright spirit. John's greatest love was for his children and family and would do anything for them.
Surviving family include his three loving children, Robin S. Pflueger, Meghan P. Welker (Jordan) and John S. Pflueger, IV; his devoted mother, Lois S. Pflueger; brother, James S. Pflueger (Sheryl); and sister, Ruth P. Nischt (Walter). Also surviving are nieces, Katie M. Pflueger, Kara P. Jones (Simeon); nephews, Peter W. Nischt and John R. Nischt; aunt, Ruth P. Juve; and numerous other cousins and relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, John S. Pflueger, Jr.; and grandparents, John S. and Ruth R. Pflueger and Luke and Edna Sewell.
Special thanks to Dr. Koenig for his care and compassion throughout the years. A special thanks to Dr. Kitson and Dr. Neidameier, Lou-Ann, the Summa Hospice team and all of the Summa nurses who took part in his care. They all made John's journey easier.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Rev. Sandra Selby officiating. Private inurnment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Seiberling Nature Realm c/o Metroparks Foundation, 975 Treaty Line Rd., Akron 44313, in memory of John S. Pflueger, III.
