It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing at home of John Shaffer, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years, Bev; sons Raymond and Kip; daughter Wende; sister Helen and numerous other family members and friends.
John was a proud U.S. Army veteran and graduate of Westminster College. He worked at Boeing, IBM, and co-owned a kitchen wares store and cooking school. John was the first Board President of the Ronald McDonald House of Akron and Board Trustee Emeritus. He was an avid birder and avocational nature photographer. He was a nature lover and enjoyed traveling. John was a food photographer for five cookbooks. He was a proud lifetime member of 60 Mayfield Open. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Western Reserve for their assistance with and care of John the last few years up until his passing.
Funeral service celebrating John’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 6:00 PM at The Billow Funeral Homes, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron, OH 44333. Friends may call from 4:00 PM until the time of the service. Military burial will take place Thursday, April 15 at 10:30 AM at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Seville, OH 44273. Please meet at Billow Funeral Home by 9:30 AM for procession to the cemetery.
