John Gregory Shellabarger

Following a brief illness, John Gregory Shellabarger passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 17th 2024.  He was 81 years old.

Greg was an iconic gentlemen.  His greatest passion in life was his work advancing more sophisticated coding for patient care software and hiking.  Lots of hiking!  His library reflected his love of exploring new places especially if they involved hiking and getting off the beaten path.  Judging from the number of well-worn travel maps that littered the house, there was no area that he overlooked as a potential to explore.  One memorable trip involved circumnavigating Lake Erie with his friend Laura DeYoung and her daughter Erika.  Stopping to explore some remote location on the northern shore, finding a small restaurant to share a meal, stopping to view the wonderous Niagara Falls.  His inquisitiveness and selflessness will be missed.

Greg was born on November 7, 1942 and raised in Akron.  While he had no siblings, he did have two loving and adoring parents that he remained close to his entire life.  His mother was Margaret Louise Shellabarger and his father was John Hardin Shellabarger.  His ashes will be spread amongst some of his favorite hiking trails.
