John Sophis, 94, passed away May 6, 2017.
Born in Akron March 11, 1923 to Steve and Mary Skoules Sophis, he was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. John was the proprietor of the Coney Island Restaurant, retired from Firestone with 30 years' service and then worked for the Summit County Coroner's office for 15 years. He loved his Tribe and was a gifted sports statistician. John was a very active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, volunteering for the Good Samaritans as well as the Gyro Luncheons.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Stavroula "Stacy" and his parents; he is survived by his son, Stephen; sister, Helen Sophis; and numerous cousins and Godchildren.
Services will be held 11 a.m. TODAY at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. Jerry F. Hall officiating. Interment at Mount Peace Cemetery.
