John Albert Treufeldt, Sr.
June 29, 1941 to March 26, 2017
John was born in Richmond Hill, New York City 75 years ago. Early Sunday morning, John lost his long struggle with COPD and was released. He showed an early interest in nature and farming which led him to attend Wilmington College. He studied agriculture, specializing in Dairy farming. There he met his first wife and started a family. After graduating, his first job was with International Harvester. Family was important to him and he worked hard to provide for them, financially and spiritually.
John and his family settled in Richfield Ohio in 1967. There he created his beloved, life-long 'Homestead'. Wanting to spend more time with his family, John then worked for Ford Motor Co., at the Walton Hills Stamping Plant. He retired after 34 years.
John served his community in many ways including Richfield Jaycees and Town of Richfield Community Days. A member of the Richfield United Church of Christ; he took great pleasure being part of the Choir. At home, he enjoyed making crafts, woodworking, stained glass and painting. Working ahead of his time, he often recycled parts into useful items for the home and yard. The care of his yard and home was something he took pride and pleasure in. His other passions were trains; model, steam and modern; also, baseball and other sports.
His appreciation of nature led him to work at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. There he helped to restore the Lock Tender's home and other buildings. John also was a history buff and took pride in being part of preserving the history of his community for future generations. After his retirement, he volunteered in many other capacities with the Ranger division. He was able to volunteer up until the last winter.
The last 20 years of his life where brightened by his partner in life, June Means and their dog, Copper. They spent many happy times traveling the country together and taking bus trips. They went to all 50 States visiting family and friends along the way.
In addition to June, surrounding his memory with love are; daughter, Annette Treufeldt-Franck and husband, Randy, from Colorado; son, John Treufeldt, Jr. and wife, Melissa, from Kentucky; grandchildren, Hiatt and Joya Franck, Connor and Isabell Treufeldt, Nathan and Marissa Andrews, Jack and Grace Means; sister, Charlotte and Barry Whitcomb of North Carolina.
