John J. (Jack) Lynett
Born 6-26-1932 in Akron, Ohio. Jack, named after an uncle, graduated from St. Vincent Prep in Latrobe, PA and the University of Akron and its College of Law.
A prominent defense lawyer, Jack practiced in the Summit County Courts defending civil cases involving claims of personal injury. He retired after 50 years in 2011 from the firm of Roderick Linton Belfance.
Widowed after 52 years of marriage to Sylvia Shockley, Jack leaves behind his children John (Kim) Lynett, Joe (Terry) Lynett, Susan (Kendall) Kelley, and Sandy (Mark) Rose. He lost his youngest daughter Sara Anweiler to cancer in 2011. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Jack also leaves behind his very special friend Pat Bradshaw, who has shared with him many beautiful times.
After college, he served in the US Army, as a commissioned officer with duty in Germany. Jack served on the boards of many local organizations including the Diabetes Association, the Bath Township Water and Sewer board, St. Hilary School Board and the International Antique & Classic Boat Society. He was a founder and officer of the local chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society, winning many awards and honors with his restored wooden boats. He belonged to the Chris-Craft Club, the Lyman Owners Association and the Dispro Owners Association.
Jack enjoyed many activities including skydiving and parasailing. He built a human-carrying kite which he piloted over Jumping Caribou Lake in Canada where the family owned a cottage for 33 years. He was most proud of the 1936 truck he built from scratch.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM on Saturday March 2, 2024 at St. Hilary Catholic Church 2750 W. Market St. Fairlawn, Ohio 44333. Family and friends may visit from 5-8 PM on Friday March 1, 2024 at Billow Funeral Home 85 N. Miller Rd. Fairlawn, Ohio 44333. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Cleveland Clinic Hospice. ( www.my.clevelandclinic.org )
