Johnnie "Papa" Russo
Johnnie "Papa" Russo, 71, went home to the Lord on April 14, 2009 after a long illness.

He was born on June 18, 1937 to Frank and Gertrude Parish Russo in Akron, Ohio. He was very proud of his Italian heritage.

John retired from Acme #1 in 2003. He served his country in the Air Force as an Airman 1st Class. He was a parishioner at St. Sebastian Church and a member of the Usher's Ministry. He treasured being equipment manager for Hoban High School's football team for 25 years. His greatest joy was his family and friends.

Papa was preceded in death by his parents; godfather, Dominick Sollozzo; brother, Anthony; and is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Donna Sullivan Russo; daughters, Peggy McClellan, Laura David Pietenpol, Jenny Wilson, Laniece Russo; grandchildren, Dominic and Shelby Wilson, Shannon and Ryan Pavlic. He is survived by many relatives and friends, especially Don Fraraccio and Jim Carbone.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 476 Mull Ave., Akron. Interment will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Papa's memory to the Archbishop Hoban High School Scholarship Fund.
