Jon Morland Daugherty passed away at the age of 81 on June 24, 2015 at Hospice Care Center of pancreatic cancer, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Akron, Jon was the son of Walter and Rena (Nelson) Daugherty; he spent most of his life in Cuyahoga Falls where he graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School; attended Kent State University, served in the U.S. Army in Korea, and then graduated from Bowling Green State University with a B.S. in Biology with minor in Chemistry and English.
Jon retired from Zinc Corporation of America and belonged to multiple professional organizations such as: Ohio Rubber Group, Cleveland Chemical Association, Cleveland Paint and Coatings Association, as well as Southern Rubber Group.
He spent most of his life helping others. He volunteered with the American Red Cross Disaster Service in Cleveland, Big Brothers program, Boy Scouts of America where he served as committee chairman, Mobile Meals, Haven of Rest; he represented Kiwanis as Youth Service Advisor to Copley High School Key Club, and was an avid volunteer for the Good Neighbors unit in Goodyear Heights.
Church was an important part of Jon's life. He belonged to the Church of the Covenant and the Fairmount Presbyterian Churches in Cleveland, serving as a deacon in both congregations. He was a 40 year member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder, deacon, and vital member of numerous committees.
Preceded in death by his parents, survivors include his loving wife Ellen; son Kevin (Carie) Daugherty of Granger Twp, daughter Suzanne (Larry) Booher of Beavercreek, Ohio; four grandchildren: Madison and Caulin Booher and Keegan and Keira Daugherty.
Friends will be received at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron, on Sunday from 2-5 P.M. Services will be held at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1250 W. Exchange St., Akron, Ohio 44313, on Monday, June 29, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to either Good Neighbors, 1453 Bingham Path, Akron, Ohio 44305 or the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
