Joseph H. Gilchrist, 77 passed away Thursday, March 24, 2011.
Born July 16, 1933 in South Akron to Laurence and Ruth Gilchrist, he was a long-time Cuyahoga Falls resident. Joe was a proud member of St. Mary's 1951 graduation class. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War and attended Kent State University before joining The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company where he worked for 40 years rising to Assistant Comptroller. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. He was active in his retirement volunteering for West Akron Kiwanis and the Ministry for the Needy with Immaculate Heart of Mary. Joe enjoyed keeping his mind active working with a personal computer where he did a lot of writing. He compiled a book of personal memoirs and numerous poems. What he enjoyed most of all was spending time with his large family, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and friends.
He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Joann; their children, Teresa Babb, Cathy Larry Towning, Susan John Zanin, Michael Judy Gilchrist, Anne Bruce Bee, Mary Steve Ertley, John Gilchrist; their 12 grandchildren, Patty, Joe, Annie, Jim, Dena, Claire, Andy, Emily, Mike, Tommy, Joe, and Danny; and their 3 great- grandchildren, Zachary, Emma, and Mia.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Cuyahoga Falls with Rev. Thomas McCann officiating. Friends may call at the Billow Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Sunday 3 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ministry for the Needy or the Father McIntyre Fund at Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1905 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44223 Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel
