Joyce Beckner

Joyce A. Beckner, 83, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015.

Born on November 10, 1931 in Cleveland, she was the daughter of the late John and Florence Kubes; A graduate from the St. Joseph's Academy in Cleveland, Joyce was a resident of the Fairlawn area since 1970 and a member of St. Hilary Catholic Church.

She was a strong, resilient lady with a special love for the poor and devoted many hours assisting the Good Neighbors Food Bank in Akron. Joyce raised a great family and enjoyed gardening, flowers, antiques, collecting, golf, family gatherings, traveling, and spending time at the lakes. She was always very busy and loved to drive around town; she always dreamed of a house by the lake.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her sister, Beatrice Rybak.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Gene; children: Michael (Malee) Beckner, Shari (Jeremy) Littman, Connie (Jim) Mackin, Tricia (Kent) Ratekin, and Ken Beckner; grandchildren: Lily (Bryan) Arzaga, Apichet Pengrod, Rose (Kevin) Corpening, James, Daniel (Jorden), Kevin, Erin, David, and Clare Mackin, Alexander Shapiro, Sonja and Sylvia Beckner; great-grandchildren: Layla Mackin, Jazare Pengrod; brothers Kenneth (Rita) and Jack Kubes; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends will be received at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., on Thursday from 5-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Hilary Catholic Church, 2750 W. Market St. in Fairlawn on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
