Joyce (Merryweather) Wakeford passed away Friday, March 30,
2018.
Joyce was born on November 2, 1930 to Clyde and Dorothy Merryweather of Akron. As an adult, Joyce lived in New York, Alabama, Maryland, West Virginia and Delaware before retiring back to Akron in 2003. She had been employed as a flight attendant with Eastern Airlines, as a Kindergarten teacher and as a homemaker to her husband, Ron and children, Mark and Anne. In later years, she was a tireless volunteer for the Berkeley Springs Historical Society and her beloved Children's Beach House.
She was predeceased by both parents, Clyde and Dorothy; husband, Ron; and younger brother, John. She is survived by her brother, Tom (Marilyn) Merryweather of Akron; children, Anne of Elkins, West Virginia and Mark of Washington, D.C.; nieces and nephews, Melissa Merryweather of London, England, Tim (Denise) Merryweather of Akron, Betsy (Nate) Stuyvesant of Uniontown, Greg (Anna) Merryweather of Brooklyn, New York, John-David (Erin) Merryweather of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Jessica (Christopher) Pollard.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1361 W. Market St. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to the Akron Community Foundation, 345 W. Cedar St, Akron 44307 or The Children's Beach House, 1800 Bay Avenue, Lewes, DE 19958.
