Judith Ann Ausmus Bender George, 75, wife of Pete George, will rest on her mountaintop Tennessee farm where her beloved grandmother, Maggie Carroll, raised her. Judy passed away on August 13th, 2015 and is returning to the beauty of her Tennessee mountains with the breath-taking views she always loved.
Her parents, Otis and Carol Ausmus, left Flat Hollow, Tennessee for Akron, Ohio where Judy graduated from Kenmore High School and The University of Akron. She was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. Judy is remembered by her fellow educators and her colleagues at Hyre Junior High School as an "educarer" because of her concern and love for her many students. Her caring about those students led her to create and design the Groundhog Day Recognition Award Ceremony and dinner that recognized students for their character and kind acts. She received national recognition for her innovative ideas to reward young people. Her "educarer" dedication influenced the lives of her students for 30 years and she is remembered not only as a caring teacher but a genuine and honest person. Judy leaves many family members, friends, and neighbors who loved her for her generosity, her sense of humor and her wisdom. She enjoyed art and literature and her original poetry is beautiful, thought-provoking, and humorous. Judy loved animals and her pets. She even fed the "critters" in the neighborhood.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Carol Ausmus, and her grandparents, Luther and Maggie Carroll. Surviving her and cherishing her memory is her husband of 39 years, Pete George; her stepson, Peter George; aunt and uncle, Sue and Sam Mars and the Mars family of Kentucky; cousin, Jean Henson and the Henson family of Tennessee; and dear friend of 48 years, Laura Abrashoff. Judy will be missed by her many close friends and family members.
Appreciation and gratitude are extended to George Abood's family, especially Diane, Beth and David, for their unwavering support and loving care during her illness and to her friend, Marvene O'Reilly, for her "very excellent" pampering. Judy's family wishes to thank those friends who gave so generously of their time to visit her while she was in hospice. Family and friends alike sincerely thank the entire staff at the Akron General Hospice Care Center on Ridgewood Road for their outstanding care and compassion. Their unselfish devotion is not only appreciated but embraced by those in Judy's life. Judy George will be remembered for her creativity and humor. Her beauty, grace and intelligence touched many lives.
