Judith Anne Whalen, 71, passed away March 14, 2011 at her home.
Born in Akron, she was a lifetime area resident and graduated from Buchtel High School and The University of Akron where she was a Delta Gamma. Judy taught in the Cuyahoga Falls and Akron school systems, was an active volunteer with the Juvenile Court Auxiliary, PEO, and the First Congregational Church of Akron. She enjoyed golfing, singing in the choir and playing cards.
Preceded in death by her parents, Wilson Sparhawk and Betty Sparhawk Dorsey and sister, Diane Kirk, she is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Whalen of Nashville, Tenn.; son, Sean Katrina Whalen of Cary, N.C.; grandchildren, Colin, Ryan, and Eva; sister, Nancy Jackson and brother, Robert Sparhawk, both of Akron; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Brookdale of Bath for their kind and loving care of Judith.
Memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. TODAY at the First Congregational Church of Akron in the Chapel, with Rev. Dr. Jay Marshall Groat officiating. Private interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Food Cupboard of the First Congregational Church of Akron, 292 E. Market St., Akron 44308.
