June Koudelka
On Friday, July 19, the Lord called our Mother, June Koudelka, to be with him. As a child, she grew up in Cleveland on a farm with her mother Eva and father Emil, a younger sister Betty and an older brother Burton. She attended Glenville Elementary School and later moved to Bedford where she graduated from Bedford High School. From the tenth through the twelfth grades she did housekeeping and babysitting to help the family earning a quarter a day. During WWII she received training as a nurse and worked for Dr. King in his private practice in Bedford. It was during this time that June would meet Harvey Steadman, the love of her life and a Bomber Pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps. They were married in the winter of 1943, but sadly he was killed while on active duty in December 1944.
After the war, June remarried and was blessed with four wonderful children; three boys and one girl. After the children were up in school, she returned to nursing working briefly for the Bedford Medical Group and then 22 years in the Bath Family Practice. Upon retirement, June retrained as a Hospice Spiritual Volunteer and volunteered nearly 20 more years. During these years she was twice recognized as the Volunteer of the Year at the Akron General Visiting Nurse Service on Ridgewood Road in Copley. She was also honored by the Red Cross of Northeastern Ohio for her service to Hospice.
June is survived by her children, Brent (Linda) Koudelka, Greg Koudelka, Dru (Veronica) Koudelka and Susan (Edward) Tragler; grandchildren, Patricia, Robert, Marc, Matthew and Andrew; and great grandchildren, Zachery, Ashley, Natalie, Audrey, Nadia, Leia and Logan.
She was a gracious and generous lady and will be missed.
