Katherine Tasia Jumbert (née Rounis), 76, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2024, surrounded by her two loving daughters and son-in-law. Those who knew her will greatly miss her beautiful smile and pure heart.
Katy was born on May 10, 1948, in Akron, Ohio, to Aneta Allen and Panagiotis Rounis. She graduated from Buchtel High School in 1967 and earned an Associate Degree in Secretarial Science from The University of Akron. She worked as a secretary for the Akron Fire Department and then for the Akron Health Department. Katy married the love of her life, George, in 1971. They were married for 52 years.
Katy and George raised their two daughters in a home immersed in Greek, Middle Eastern, and American cultures and food. A proud Greek-American, Katy taught her daughters about their family history, traditions, and Orthodox faith. Katy loved cooking and baking for holiday meals, always focused on “making some good memories” for her kids. She was an active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Akron. Katy loved volunteering for Good Samaritans, the annual Greek Festival, and other Church ministries, and was a Philoptochos (Melissa) Society member.
Katy is preceded in death by her uncle, John Allen, her aunt, Peggy Allen, her grandparents, William (Sotiri) and Tassia Allen, her father, Panagiotis (Pete) Rounis, her mother, Aneta Allen, and her loving husband, Georgie. She leaves behind her daughters Angela Jumbert and Gigi Jumbert (Evan Stern), and many beloved cousins.
Katy’s daughters would like to thank the caretakers, past and present, at Memory Care of Vitalia of Montrose for their devoted care of both of their parents. Thank you also to the caretakers at Suncrest Hospice for their care for Mom in her final days.
