Kathleen Diane Schmidt , also known as Susie or Rose, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2024, at the age of 74 in Bath, Ohio. Born on May 24, 1949, in Parma, Ohio to the late Charles and Kathleen (Malone) Priefer, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Kevin, Robert and Tommy.
Kathleen attended Nazareth High School in Parma followed by St Vincent’s Nursing School in Toledo. Her life was marked by compassion, dedication and extreme resilience. She became a dedicated nurse who spent her career caring for others. Starting as a RN at Parma Hospital and later on transitioning to management at the Hospice of Medina County, Kathleen was known for her quick wit and approachability. A friend and coworker who was always willing to jump in and lend a hand. She was a member of St. Hilary Catholic Church and a huge supporter of Kitten Krazy.
A real life warrior, Kathleen triumphed over both a stroke and breast cancer. She loved Cleveland sports and could be found yelling at the TV on any given Sunday. She was also an avid gambler, though the elusive jackpot of fortune was no match for the jackpot of love she shared with her family. As a testament of her winning streak in matters of the heart, she is survived by Jim, her husband and partner in life’s casino of 52 years, her children Jason (Caroline), Shannon Powers (Dan), Corinna Brown (Chris), Jamie Clapper (Lee), her adoring grandsons, Anthony, Alex, Dominic, Connor, Aidan and Franklin, her surviving siblings, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial to honor Kathleen’s life will be at 10 AM on Saturday March 9, 2024 at St. Hilary Catholic Church 2750 W. Market St. Fairlawn, Ohio 44333. Family and friends may visit from 5-8 PM on Friday March 8, 2024 at Billow Funeral Home 85 N. Miller Rd. Fairlawn, Ohio 44333. Burial will take place at All Saints Cemetery in Northfield, Ohio.
