Kathryn "Kit" Givens

Kathryn "Kit" Givens, 68, passed away peacefully March 16, 2012 surrounded by her loving family.

Born in San Jose, CA, she lived most of her life in Akron. Kit attended The Ohio State University and graduated from Northwestern University then received a Master's Degree from Stanford University. She taught for 25 years; the best years being at Firestone High School.

Preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Catherine Nettling; survived by son, Samuel (Atalie) Givens; cherished grandsons, Carson and Colin; daughters, Katherine (Karnyn) Givens, Amanda Givens; brother, Randy (Leslie) Nettling; life long friends, Patricia Helbig, Gary and Ilona Himmel, Boni Dennis, Clem Johnson and her beloved corgis, Bentley and Jasmine.

The Given's family would like to thank the staff of Dr. Jones, Dr. Schill, Dr. Rehmus and Akron General Medical Center for their quick and strong efforts to help our mom in her brief battle. We would also like to thank Firestone High School staff and students, the Ellet staff and the Akron Public Schools for all of their extraordinary help and support during this time.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, March 21st from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at Firestone High School Auditorium, 333 Rampart Ave, Akron. Friends may call 5 to 8 pm, Tuesday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society or Summit County Public Libraries.
