Kathryn (Kay) Rhine Hibbard

August 31, 1926 — January 16, 2019

Kathryn (Kay) Rhine Hibbard (nee Smith) was born 31 August 1926 to Walter C. and Alma A. Smith in Bristolville, OH and died 16 January 2019 at the age of 92. She became a registered nurse in 1947 after graduating from Youngstown Hospital School of Nursing. She married James A. Rhine in 1950 and subsequently moved to Mogadore, OH, where she resided for over 50 years. James and Kathryn had two children - Elaine Ann Rhine and Craig James Rhine (deceased).
Kay was employed at Edwin Shaw Hospital where she worked for over 20 years both as a registered nurse and also as the Utilization Review Coordinator. After the death of her first husband, she married Harold H. Hibbard in 1977. She was active in her community having helped in the formation of the Mothers and Others group, and in the Food Cupboard within her church. She also enjoyed participating in Elderhostels. She counted as her many blessings, her parents, her husbands and her children. After the death of her second husband she moved to Concordia at Sumner in Copley, OH, where she resided until her death.
She is survived by her daughter, Elaine R. (Hayden) Hamilton of Bonsall, CA and her step-daughters, Deanna (J.C.) Wilson of Raleigh, N.C. and Dorena (Douglas) Boike of Oak Ridge, N.C.; four step-grandchildren and six step-greatgrandchildren.
Calling hours will be held THURSDAY January 24 from 5-7 P.M. at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Fairlawn, OH 44333. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Akron First Congregational Church Endowment Fund ,292 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44308, or Habitat for Humanity of Summit County, 2301 Romig Road Akron, Ohio 44320.
